Lucknow: The second day of the nine-day celebrations marking the 164th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda was observed with deep devotion and humanitarian spirit at Ramakrishna Math, Lucknow, through the traditional observance of “Rogi Narayan Seva”, symbolising service to humanity as service to God.
As part of the programme, Rogi Narayan Puja was performed in the morning at the Vivekananda Polyclinic and Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow, where patients were worshipped as the living form of Narayan (God). The ritual reflects Swami Vivekananda’s philosophy that service to mankind is the highest form of worship.
The ceremony began with the symbolic worship of God, following which patients were revered as Narayan. Secretary of the Institute, Swami Muktinathanand, along with sadhus, doctors, medical officers, paramedical staff and administrative officials, participated in the sacred service. Medical Officer Dr. B.K. Singh, Personnel Officer Dr. Vishal Singh, matrons, nursing staff and paramedical teams joined in offering flowers, sandalwood paste, tilak, incense and lamps, followed by offerings of apples, oranges, bananas and biscuits as bhog.
Swami Muktinathanand Maharaj personally visited the emergency ward, where he offered prayers to patients, adorned them with garlands, performed aarti, and prayed for their speedy recovery. The service was conducted across 10 wards, including Emergency, Paediatrics, Gynaecology, Gastroenterology, Orthopaedics, Medical and Surgical wards.
In total, 203 admitted patients were individually worshipped and served by the monks and hospital staff, reinforcing the message of compassion, dignity and selfless service that lies at the heart of Swami Vivekananda’s teachings.
The nine-day Swami Vivekananda Jayanti celebrations at Ramakrishna Math continue to inspire spiritual reflection, social service and community welfare across the city.
